6-Day Rwanda Primate Tracking-Birding Tour.
Nyungwe forest covers over 10000 sq. km in size. The forest habituates primates including chimpanzees and colobus monkeys, butterflies, and about 300 recorded bird species of birds. On this trip, you will also Visit cultural and heritage sites including the palace of the former king of Rwanda in Nyanza Nyanza and the Museum in Butare. This is a scheduled safari that departs twice a month every first Thursday and third Thursday of the month.
Day 1; Arrival
Arrive in Kigali at Kanombe airport where you will meet our driver and tour guide then transfer to a hotel in Kigali City. Dinner and overnight: Hotel Chez Lando.
Day 2; Nyungwe Forest.
This morning leave for Nyungwe Forest National Park. Have stops en route at places of interest including local markets, and the traditional palace of Rwanda’s Former King in Nyanza. You will visit the Botanical Gardens and a cultural museum in Butare; you will have Lunch en route before proceeding to Nyungwe Forest across cute hilly sceneries modified by tea plantations. Dinner and overnight; Gisakura Guest House.
Day 3; Nyungwe Forest
This morning after your breakfast, go for chimpanzee tracking and other primates such as colubus monkeys. You will continue on a guided nature walk in the forest searching for birds including; the black and white casqued hornbill, turaco, and many others, the forest has over 300 species of birds. Dinner and overnight: Gisakura Guest House.
Day 4; Parc National des Volcans.
This morning you will transfer from Nyungwe Forest Park to Parc National des Volcans. You will see stunning sceneries of hills/volcanoes en route to Kinigi: Dinner and overnight: at Mountain Gorilla View Lodge or Hotel La Palme.
Day 5: Parc National des Volcans
Drive to the Park Headquarters for a briefing by the guides before heading for gorilla tracking in the park. Tracking can be hard and challenging thus requires the physical fitness of the participants. Parc National des Volcans is a forest with hilly sceneries, steep slopes, and swamps that can make tracking a hard and tiring experience. Tracking can take as long as up to 6 hours of a walk in the forest searching for the gorillas.
However, an hour of interaction with these primates is indeed a rewarding experience. Dinner and overnight: Mountain Gorilla View Lodge or Hotel La Palme.
Day 6: Parc National des Volcans – Kigali.
This day you will hike to the Dian Fossey’s Karisoke Research Centre and visit local communities. There drive to Kigali and transfer to Kanombe airport for your return flight.
